Prayers on a Runway

by Lisa

I love clothes but mostly I admire the art of designers, and creators of beautiful fabric. I don’t own many nice clothes except what I’ve bought second hand. No cashmere yet though I have given as a gift. I’m sure I will someday though. Its funny, too, because part of my work is designing and making fashionable clothes for other people. But I have pretty simple things myself. But when I see the great masters of fabric arts it is so inspiring and helps to inspire me and push my ideas further. I guess I’m thinking a lot about this right now because it’s Fashion Week and I am pouring over the latest creations as the shows finish and images are posted online. They just make me look at everything much closer. ya know, to “Look really look at everything in this world for inspiration.

When Galliano is inspired by flowers this is what he creates:

He takes a liking to Flemish painters like Vermeer? Then this happens….

He enjoys some tea from a nice piece of blue and white delftware?

We go into a dark ages with Bush?  He goes medieval with ideas on Joan of Arc and such

Realities of torture and humiliation emerge by those crusading for democracy?

And what about Madame Butterfly as origami ?

This is Viktor and Rolf showing that it isn’t necessarily the dress, but the spaces betweenthe dress that tell the story and hold the power.

Sound familiar?

And, perhaps the inner angel longing to break free?

About Michaela

I am a wanderer and a wonderer, like you are. I love our journey and to walk in the company of friends – to learn, experience, share, laugh, cry and above all I simply love this marvelous, magical, mysterious life. I have no plan (cannot believe I am saying this) and my only intention is to be truthful to myself and others.
