The nativity scenes at Christmas go back to St Francis of Asisi in the 13th century. Many churches in Austria have very elaborate, valuable and old pieces at display. This is a particularly beautiful one from Mariazell:
I am a wanderer and a wonderer, like you are. I love our journey and to walk in the company of friends – to learn, experience, share, laugh, cry and above all I simply love this marvelous, magical, mysterious life. I have no plan (cannot believe I am saying this) and my only intention is to be truthful to myself and others.
Wow, this is amazing! Do you know the details – how big it is, who made it, how long it took? You may have spurred me on to an internet search later today! 😉
This is a manger in a private house in Mariazell. It is said to have been built in 18 winters by Bruno Habertheuer. It shows 12 scenes from the new will, with 130 movable figures.
