The difference between past and future

From low entropy to chaos…

Every difference between the past and the future can ultimately be traced to the fact that the entropy was lower in the past and is growing — that’s the second law of thermodynamics: the universe was orderly, and is becoming more disorderly.

The vineyard

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.  You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.  Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (The true vine – John:15)

I love the parable of the vine and it is worthwhile to be contemplated. I came to think about it walking through the hills and vineyards close by my home. Throughout the year I can observe the vine pruning and cutting and burning of the dead branches, the ripening of the grapes and  the days of picking them, some of them left on the vine until the first frost.  It takes a lot of work to make wine, but if you observe well, you realise the valuable essence in a simple glass of wine.  Where I live, I still know where the grapes of the wine I drink have been  growing, watched them being pruned and cared for. There is a lot of love in wine making, and it’s energy is healing. Just imagine to drink the essence of these sweet fruits, that have been ripening throughout a year, being nourished by the nutrients of the dark soil, kissed by the sun, showered by the rain and fanned by the wind.

And I look at the old, knobby vine and the young, green shoots and branches, bearing this year’s bounty. I taste the fruit from the vine. Its so succulent, juicy and sweet. I feel the energy of the sun, the earth and the wind. And I understand the meaning of the parable as a pointer to what nourishes us, enables us, moves us, lives in us and through us.

Just taste the sweetness of life.

The hats on the 23rd Street subway platform

This is from Ephemeral New York. Subway Art…love it !

ephemeralnewyork's avatarEphemeral New York

Ever take the N/R train and wonder why there are so many mosaic images of hats lining the platform walls?

It’s an art installation called Memories of Twenty-Third Street. Artist Keith Godard pays homage to the famous men and women who a century ago would have frequented the area around 23rd Street and Broadway, where the station is located.

“From the 1880s through the 1920s, 23rd Street was a major vaudeville, entertainment, and cultural district, and ‘Ladies Mile,’ the fashion and department store haven of the time, was located nearby,” states the MTA’s Arts for Transit website.

The hats are stand-ins for the celebs of the day, among them Lily Langtry, Sarah Bernhardt, Isadora Duncan, P.T. Barnum (that’s his top hat in the center photo).

Marie Curie and Winslow Homer are represented in the top pic, and the fancy hats of vaudeville actress Fay Templeton and suffragist Maud…

It feels like the momentum has changed very much in favor of those who always had the real power – the power to say “no” to lies, deceit and abuse. These pictures are from a demonstration in Spain on September 25th. Activists and citizens surrounded the parliament to protest the the  kidnapping of the popular sovereignty by the Troika and by The Markets, executed under the blessing and collaboration of most of the political parties. Parties which have betrayed their electoral programs, their voters and the people in general, breaking their vows and contributing to people’s gradual pauperization.
