The wisdom of Rumi

Visible reality

If you want what visible reality
can give, you’re an employee.
If you want the unseen world,
you’re not living your truth.
Both wishes are foolish,
but you’ll be forgiven for forgetting
that what you really want is
love’s confusing joy.

Ghosts

Tribute in Light, 2006

Beethoven composed the piano trio in D, Op 70 “Ghost” in 1808, when he was nearly completely deaf and clearly in a mystical mood. The trio is dubbed “the Ghost Sonata” because of its strangely scored and undeniably eerie-sounding slow movement. The name has stuck with the work ever since. The ghostly music may have had its roots in sketches for aMacbeth opera that Beethoven was contemplating at the time. In truth however, the Ghost Trio was so named by Czerny because the second movement reminded him of Hamlet’s Ghost in Shakespeare.

Ghazal 838

Elixir of Life

if you pass your night and merge it with dawn for the sake of heart what do you think will happen if the entire world is covered with the blossoms you have labored to plant what do you think will happen if the elixir of life that has been hidden in the dark fills the desert and towns what do you think will happen if because of your generosity and love a few humans find their lives what do you think will happen if you pour an entire jar filled with joyous wine on the head of those already drunk what do you think will happengo my friend bestow your love even on your enemies if you touch their hearts what do you think will happen Rumi, Fountain of Fire Translated by Nader Khalili

The wisdom of Rumi

Mountain stream

Advice doesn’t help lovers!
They’re not the kind of mountain stream
you can build a dam across.

An intellectual doesn’t know
what the drunk is feeling!

Don’t try to figure
what those lost inside love
will do next!

Someone in charge would give up all his power,
if he caught one whiff of that wine musk
from the room where the lovers
are doing who-knows-what!

One of them tries to dig a hole through a mountain.
One flees from academic honors.
One laughs at famous mustaches!

Life freezes if it doesn’t get a taste
of this almond cake.
The stars come up spinning
every night, bewildered in love.
They’d grow tired
with that revolving, if they weren’t.
They’d say
“How long do we have to do this!”

God picks up the reed-flute world and blows.
Each note is a need coming through one of us,
a passion, a longing-pain.
Remember the lips
where the wind-breath originated,
and let your note be clear.
Don’t try to end it.
Be your note.
I’ll show you how it’s enough.

Go up on the roof at night
in this city of the soul.
Let everyone climb on their roofs
and sing their notes!

Sing loud!

On Work

Smelting Copper

by Khalil Gibran

You work that you may keep pace with the earth and the soul of the earth.
For to be idle is to become a stranger unto the seasons,
and to step out of life’s procession, that marches in majesty and proud submission towards the infinite.

Holy Anger

Graffiti

And one day I saw how we are all connected and working together.

For a while I have been able to clearly differentiate when someone spoke or acted from higher consciousness as opposed to their reactive patterns of the conditioned mind.  It was maddening, because it was like getting two sets of information at the same time.

The wisdom of Rumi

Ghazal 119

A companion after my taste

I don't need a companion who is nasty sad and sour the one who is like a grave dark depressing and bitter a sweetheart is a mirror a friend a delicious cake it isn't worth spending an hour with anyone else a companion who is in love only with the self has five distinct characters stone hearted unsure of every step lazy and disinterested keeping a poisonous face the more this companion waits around the more bitter everything will get just like a vinegar getting more sour with time enough is said about sour and bitter faces a heart filled with desire for sweetness and tender souls must not waste itself with unsavory matters

The ardent alchemist

Alpine Flowers

A reagent is a substance to bring about a chemical reaction.

It cracks open old bondage and allows for a transformation to happen.

Welcome the disturber !
