‘Learn what you are and be such’
These are the words of the ancient Greek poet Pindaros (518 – 455 BC)
‘Learn what you are and be such’ is all what awakening is about. Point-blank.
Learn what you are and be such.
But what it actually translates into is finding out “what you are not” and cease being it. And this is where the challenge is coming in, because it requires us to change.
Awakening would be easy if one day we wake up from the dream, recognise it was a dream and start living our lives according to the new insight. Well, no such luck most of the time, because we still believe the new “reality” works according to the old rules.
Someone send me a link the other day about a meeting of inspired business leaders, taking about new business models in a world that is changing by the minute. “Conscious Capitalism” was the title of the conference and it really made me laugh because this is the ultimate oxymoron. As if capitalism could survive in the light of consciousness. But this is exactly the well-meaning dilettantism we are up to. It is not that the people who are meeting there and talking about ways to foster change are unenlightened or unconscious. It is that they are half-hearted. You cannot be semi-conscious for real. Either you open your eyes fully or life will send you another wake up call shortly.
The first thing we have to ask ourselves is always this: Am I willing to change? Look in the mirror and ask yourself: “Am I willing to change”. How does this make you feel? Are you meeting this question with resistance or an open readiness to do what it takes.
And this is the first step.
