No time

You don’t need time.
To do what you are doing you don’t need nor future, nor past.

Zen and the art of cooking

All my life I have had a fascination with food and that was actually more than just a past time , it was a passion. I just love food, everything about it. The smell, the taste, the appearance, the texture, the touch, the colour, the quality, the form – and what is more: everything you can do with it. For I am not a foodie of the normal kind, saying that I would not bother with food if it was just about the eating or the nutritional  aspect of it – no, my relation to food has always been much, much deeper.

It started at an early age. Cooking has been an attraction since I was a small child and I could always be found in the kitchen, observing the fascinating process of turning ingredients in such lovely concoctions like soup, stews or deserts. The art of cooking cannot be learned or studied, it has to be transmitted, like a spiritual teaching, and in that respect I owe much to my grandmothers and their helpers, the matron-saints of godly food, who initiated me into the closely guarded secrets of glorious Viennese-Bohemian-Hungarian cooking.

Love

Love adorns itself;

it seeks to prove inward joy
by outward beauty.

I am too much alone in this world

I am much too alone in this world, yet not alone enough
to truly consecrate the hour.
I am much too small in this world, yet not small enough
to be to you just object and thing,  dark and smart.
I want my free will and want it accompanying
the path which leads to action;
and want during times that beg questions,
where something is up,
to be among those in the know,
or else be alone.

I want to mirror your image to its fullest perfection,
never be blind or too old
to uphold your weighty wavering reflection.
I want to unfold.
Nowhere I wish to stay crooked, bent;
for there I would be dishonest, untrue.
I want my conscience to be
true before you;
want to describe myself like a picture I observed
for a long time, one close up,
like a new word I learned and embraced,
like the everday jug,
like my mother’s face,
like a ship that carried me along
through the deadliest storm.

Just reminders

Watch, then accept it.

The how was never your part, and never will. Just leave it to the Universe

Jealousy

A while ago I listened to an interview with the British primatologist Jane Goodall. She talked about her life in Tanzania, observing and researching the behaviour of chimpanzees. Among others, one of her ground-breaking discoveries was the existence of emotions like anger, fear, rage, love or kindness in primates. She was able to show that chimpanzees went through a process of individualisation similar to that of a human being and that the connection between perceiving and feeling enabled the development of an individual personality. In this interview, she also talked about jealousy, which she had often observed in the chimps, and on the occasion she also mentioned that both of her husbands, were very jealous of her and she wondered what it was, that made her encounter this situation repeatedly.

This story stayed to me for a while and I started to enquire about the subject of jealousy.

The Battle of Love

This battle of Love is getting hotter.
The source of it’s heat is beyond time and space:
from the sparks of it’s fire the smoke of seven Hells is rising.

But Hell is extinguished by Love’s burning.
Hell says to the sincere lover.”Go quickly,
or my fire will be destroyed by your flames.”

Watch how this breath of Love dissolves
unfaithfulness, the brimstone of Hell!
Offer this brimstone to this passionate Love,

an neither these Hells
nor what sparks them
will assail you.

Paradise, too, says to the lover,
“Pass over me like the breeze,
or all I possess will become unsalable;

“for you are the original owner
and I’m just the advertisement:
I am the idol, while you are the reality.”

Both Hell and Paradise tremble
before the man or woman of faith:
neither feels safe in the presence of the truly faithful.

A walk along the emerald river
passing the dormant vinyards
crossing the  frozen creek
