Musica sacra

St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna

The Mass, a form of sacred musical composition, has always been very special to me. From when I was a kid I heard them many times performed live on Sundays at church and I was always fascinated by what imagined to be the sound of the holy spirit. Today I realise I was spot on – if you listen closely to the compositions of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, you will not fail to resonate with a sense of deep spirituality and devotion. Many of those pieces carry the handwriting of the spirit, created through the masters of music at the time.

In a time prior to mass media and spiritual teachings to be found on every corner – this is how the spirit touched people’s life.

The wisdom of Rumi

Ode 314

Those who don’t feel this Love
pulling them like a river,
those who don’t drink dawn
like a cup of spring water
or take in sunset like supper,
those who don’t want to change,

let them sleep.

This Love is beyond the study of theology,
that old trickery and hypocrisy.
I you want to improve your mind that way,

sleep on.

I’ve given up on my brain.
I’ve torn the cloth to shreds
and thrown it away.

If you’re not completely naked,
wrap your beautiful robe of words
around you,

and sleep.

Questions of Life

You always say there is no work to be done.
Are you like a leaf in the wind ?

Questions of Life are a tool for reflection. Let the question be with you and go deep. Make note of the answers.

The wisdom of Rumi

Listen for the stream
that tells you one thing.

Die on this bank.
Begin in me
the way of rivers with the sea.

A perfect day…

A last hike before the snow is coming to cover the ground at 1700 meters. The air is sharp and clear, cold winds, but the sun is still strong enough for perfect moments in the Now. Standing on a mountain, looking down in the valley. Seeing myself, the mountain and the valley  for what they are – One.

End separation Now.
